The Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) has been postponed to August 2012, after facing a series of problems including the withdrawal of Indian players from the tournament.
Sri Lanka will have the domestic Twenty20 league in its place featuring five teams, but that will not involve any foreign players.
An official announcement is awaited, though South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs, one of the overseas players linked with the tournament, told this website that he'd been informed of the one-year deferral.
A four-week window in August next year has been identified as the best time to host the event, reported a website.
The BCCI had refused No Objection Certificates to 12 Indian players - Praveen Kumar, Munaf Patel, Irfan Pathan, Dinesh Karthik, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Manoj Tiwary, Saurabh Tiwary, Umesh Yadav, Vinay Kumar, Manish Pandey and Paul Valthaty - after it was rumoured that the tournament was organised by a private party, which is close to suspended IPL chief Lalit Modi, and based in Singapore.
Another major blow the league suffered was that the SLC committee that created the tournament was dissolved last week by Sri Lanka's sports ministry.

Sri Lankan Cricket stung by the refusal of the Indian cricket authorities to release their players for next month’s Sri Lankan Premier League T20 tournament, have started to rope in more Pakistani cricketers for the event.
Sources said that the former captains — Mohammad Yousuf, Younus Khan, Shahid Afridi — are now among the leading Pakistani cricketers to have signed contracts with the SLC for the league that starts from July 19.
The other Pakistani players in line for the league include all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, national team discards Fawad Alam and Shahzaib Hasan, upcoming batsman Asad Shafiq and opener Ahmed Shehzad.
Tall fast bowler Mohammad Irfan is also being roped in while Umar Gul is said to have been given a contract as well.
A PCB official, when asked to comment on the signings, said the Board had no issues allowing its players to go and play in the league as it meant extra earnings for them.
“The system they are following is that the Sri Lankan Board is directly signing our players on contracts and then the franchised teams bid and buy the players they want from the Sri Lankan Board,” he explained.

Sri Lanka Cricket has failed to secure a TV broadcaster for the upcoming inaugural
Sri Lanka Premier League T20 tournament.
Somerset Entertainment Ventures (SEV) and Sri Lanka Cricket have failed to secure a broadcaster, with only weeks left before the start of tournament.
“A lot depended on the Indian participation. Now that the Indians are not coming, we will try to sign a deal with a broadcaster internally in our country,” sports minister Aluthgamage added.
India’s refusal is entirely as a result of SEV’s involvement in the competition. According to Indian media reports, the BCCI was unhappy that SLC had entrusted the issuing and signing of player contracts to SEV – a company launched only last year and, according to news reports, has links to the former IPL boss Lalit Modi, who now faces criminal charges in India.
“Let's clarify that we are only the marketing partners of SLC and this tournament is owned, hosted and played by the Sri Lankan board as an official tournament,” SEV’s chairman Sandeep Bhammer told Gulf News recently.

Cricket Australia is likely to allow Australian players to participate the inaugural
Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) Twenty20 tournament, starting July 19.
Cricket Australia's stand is in stark contrast to the one of Board of Control for Cricket in India, which banned its players from taking part in
SLPL, leaving the island nation "surprised and hurt".
Cricket Australia acting chief executive Michael Brown said he would discuss the details of the tournament with Sri Lanka Cricket officials at the ICC's annual conference in Hong Kong next week, but indicated it had CA's "in principle" support.
"We've got a number of CA camps during July, so our players will be training in preparation for the tour (of Sri Lanka) two days after the
SLPL finishes - they'll be locked into camps," Brown was quoted as saying in The Telegraph. "For the other guys, we just need to find out what the comp is, who's involved.
"We want to support Sri Lanka Cricket, like we want them to support us. We want their players to play in our Big Bash."

Kandurata Kites Cricket Team is a Sri Lankan first class cricket team based in Kandy, that represents Central Province. The team will feature in the inaugural
Sri Lanka Premier League to be held in July-August.
Kumar Sanagakara will captain the side in the tournament among others off spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan will also play for the Kandurata Kites.
The Kandurata Kites team got its name from the Sinhalese word "Kandurata" meaning "Hill country". As the central regions consists mostly of hills.
The team's home ground is Asgiriya Stadium, in Kandy. The team will stage their home matches in Muttiah Muralitharan International Cricket Stadium once it is completed.

Shahid Afridi has been told by the organizers of Sri Lankan Premier League that he won't need an NOC to participate in Sri Lankan Premier League.
According to ‘The News’ organisers of the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) have told Afridi that they won’t be needing any No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for him to play in the tournament.
“Afridi has received assurances from SLPL officials that they won’t require any clearance from the cricket board,” said a source. “They have told Afridi that he will be playing in the league even if the PCB refuses to grant him an NOC,” he added.
The PCB has taken stern action against Afridi over his decision to directly blame the Board for his decision to retire from international cricket. Afridi said that he has decided to quit as a protest against PCB’s ill-treatment towards him. The Board decided to hit back by suspending Afridi’s central contract and revoking all the NOCs granted to the player.
The move has all but ended Afridi’s hopes of playing for Hampshire in the English Twenty20 competition.
Last month, Afridi accepted an offer to lead one of the franchises in the SLPL for a sum of US$35,000 in the inaugural season.

The first season of Sri Lanka Premier league 2011 will start from July 19th, 2011 and end on August 4th 2011. All the matches of SLPL 2011 will be played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Their will be total of 24 matches, 21 league matches, 2 semi final matches and 1 SLPL 2011 Final.
The SLPL 2011 final will be played on 4th August 2011 at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Pakistani players sidelined from the IPL and the Champions League T20 tournaments are gearing up for the Sri Lanka Premier League.

Shahid Afridi and
Shoaib Akhtar have both confirmed their participation in the tournament while several other players are in on going discussion with the league officials.
According to sources, nearly all Pakistan players, including out-of-favour individuals, are interested in the league with all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, Sohail Tanvir, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Umar Gul and former captain Shoaib Malik currently in discussions with the SLC.
“I’m in talks with the SLC regarding the league,” wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal told The Express Tribune. “It’s a good event and I will try to avail the chance of playing in the league that will keep me busy.”
Meanwhile, Shoaib Malik, who has been out of international action since August 2010 has also shown interest in the tournament.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced it will give an instant go-ahead to the players who wish to take part in the event. “We don’t have any issues as it’s an authorised event and it’s not even clashing with the team’s international schedule,” said PCB spokesperson Nadeem Sarwar.
“My contract is yet to be confirmed but I’ m looking to play cricket whether it’s club or league cricket,” said the former captain. “The Sri Lanka league would be a good option.”

Snubbed by the Indian Premier League, Pakistani cricketers are eagerly looking forward to participating in the Sri Lankan Twenty20 League which is going to be held from July 15 to August 1.
Retired Pakistani speedster The Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akthar has confirmed that he would be participating in the Sri Lankan Premier Twenty20 League.
Other then Shoaib Akthar, Shahid Afridi has also confirmed his participation in the League and would be captaining the Nagenahira Nagas team.
The tournament stretching for 24 matches would feature
seven teams. Former Sri Lanka captains Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara besides current captain Tillikaratne Dilshan will be leading the participating sides along with Afridi, Daniel Vettori and former Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas.

The 2011 Sri Lankan T20 Premier League will be the first edition of the new official Twenty20 domestic cricket competition in Sri Lanka.
Previously the tournament was known as the Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Tournament, but now Somerert Entertainment have restructured the cricket leagues in the country.

The 2011 Sri Lankan T20 Premier League will include
seven teams in total representing the provinces of Sri Lanka, with two new teams
Nagenahira cricket team and Uthura cricket team participating in the competition.

Shahid Afridi is announced as captain for one of North-East Teams in
Srilanka’s T20 premier league which will start from 15th July 2011. Shahid Afridi is one of two non-Sri Lankans who will lead a team. Daniel Vettori is the other non-Sri Lankan to lead a team.

Shahid Afridi’s team will be “Nagenahira” whereas Daniel Vettori will lead “Uthura”. Both the provinces, Nagenahira and Uthura, were not playing Cricket due to civil war. Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardane, Kumar Sangakkara, Chaminda Vaas and Tilakratne Dilshan are five Sri Lankans to lead provincial teams.
There will be 7 teams in tournament. Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 Premier League(SL-T20-PL) will start from 15th July and will be played for 18 days. 35 international players are expected to be part of this league.
Pakistan’s nearly all players will be part of SL-T20-PL. Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo,
Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Shaun Tait, Herchell Gibbs and David Warner will also be seen in action. However, there is no report about Muttaih Muralitharan’s participation in SL-T20-PL. Five foreign players will be part of team’s pool and maximum four players will be eligible for playing XI.
Its not yet announced that which channel will broadcast the matches but taking Broadcasting Rights, for Sri Lanka’s home matches, into consideration, the channel is likely to be Ten Sports.
