Shahid Afridi will lead a team in Sri Lanka's T20 Premier League


Shahid Afridi is announced as captain for one of North-East Teams in Srilanka’s T20 premier league which will start from 15th July 2011. Shahid Afridi is one of two non-Sri Lankans who will lead a team. Daniel Vettori is the other non-Sri Lankan to lead a team.

Shahid Afridi’s team will be “Nagenahira” whereas Daniel Vettori will lead “Uthura”. Both the provinces, Nagenahira and Uthura, were not playing Cricket due to civil war.  Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardane, Kumar Sangakkara, Chaminda Vaas and Tilakratne Dilshan are five Sri Lankans to lead provincial teams.
There will be 7 teams in tournament. Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 Premier League(SL-T20-PL) will start from 15th July and will be played for 18 days. 35 international players are expected to be part of this league.

Pakistan’s nearly all players will be part of SL-T20-PL. Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Shaun Tait, Herchell Gibbs and David Warner will also be seen in action. However, there is no report about Muttaih Muralitharan’s participation in SL-T20-PL. Five foreign players will be part of team’s pool and maximum four players will be eligible for playing XI.

Its not yet announced that which channel will broadcast the matches but taking Broadcasting Rights, for Sri Lanka’s home matches, into consideration, the channel is likely to be Ten Sports.
