Shoaib Akhtar To Be Honored With a Gold Medal

World’s fastest bowler The Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akhtar, will be honoured with a gold medal on Saturday by the organising committee of Pakistan Cricket Champions League (T20) at the RLCA Korangi Stadium in Karachi.

Former Pakistan captain and wicket keeper Rashid Latif, alongside his colleagues, has decided to honor the star bowler, who recently retired from international cricket after the ICC World Cup. “Shoaib Akhtar has been a great son for Pakistan and its time to honor him for his extraordinary services for the country,” Rashid told The News.

Shoaib's Farewell Match Plea Ignored
Shoaib Akhtar also wanted to play one more time for Pakistan to say a proper goodbye to the game. He asked his teammates and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials for a farewell match. But both disagreed with the idea much to the disappointment of the maverick quickie as well as his millions of fans.

In 2007, Inzamam-ul-Haq had announced his retirement after Pakistan were eliminated from the World Cup in the first round. But the PCB allowed Inzamam to play a Test against South Africa in Lahore as a farewell gesture and also rewarded him with a cash bonus. But the PCB is treating Shoaib Akhtar in an entirely different way.

We should treat stars like stars because they are the ones who have made the country proud,” Latif added. Meanwhile, Rashid Latif will also receive a gold medal for his efforts in promoting the game all over the country.
