Shahid Afridi and Waqar Younis At Odds Over Team Selection
Pakistan successfully thumped the West Indies in the first three ODI's but ended up losing two on the bounce as the series ended 3-2 to Pakistan. It maybe a surprise to some but the people who know Pakistan cricket can understand what could be the reasons.
Pakistan skipper Shahid Khan Afridi and coach Waqar Younis were at odds on team selection and before the final ODI both had a fiery debate over inclusions and exclusions of certain players in the team.
According to sources close to the team coach Waqar Younis is not happy with the captaincy and selection skills of Shahid Afridi and thus interfered in the matters so much that it irked Afridi.
The situation was so volatile that Shahid Afridi threatened to pull out of the final ODI but after the interference of Intikhab Alam and other senior members of the squad Afridi agreed to play in the final ODI.
Sources said that the repercussions of the Captain-Coach row will also have its negative impact on the upcoming Test series as a bunch of senior players are unhappy with Waqar Younis as coach.
As always has been the case, Pakistan cricket team never comes out of any series without leaving behind a controversy and the disappointing end of a rather promising ODI series will see Pakistan Cricket Board and its top officials taking some decisions in future.
