Selection Blunders by PCB

Pakistan cricket team capitulated again. Familiar scenes for a Pakistani fan as the team slumped to another defeat and as usual the critics are latching on to the opportunity and the KCCA secretary has even blamed the selectors foe showing Anti Karachi Bias. Is the selection policy of the PCB that bad?? The one word answer is a big YES. Following is a description which will prove the KCCA secretary right in the sense that PCB's selection policy is beyond logic but it will also clarify that only the Karachi players are not the victims.

Fawad Alam

Agreed that Fawad is a player of limited Talent but he has made up for it with intense concentration and with stageering number like he has he is an automatic pick for the test side but no he is NOT. Pakistan prefer Umar Akmal just because he plays well in ODI and t20. On the other hand Fawad was regularly selected in T20I despite lacking the credentials required for a  late order t20 Batter.

Imran Nazir and Nasir Jamshed

Just look at his statistics in the domestic t20 and tell me one reason why he should not be in the Pak T20 team. OO yes i forgot that air ticket prices have increased so why take him to far off places like England and  WI just for one or two t20 games, better option is to play Asad Shafiq in T20s who is already there inspite of him averaging less than 15 with a strike rate of 93 in Domestic T20. Awesome Selection. Same goes for Nasir Jamshed, Umair Khan etc who are constantly over looked for the t20 format and NON performers (in T20D) like Asad Shafiq get to play in T20Is.

Nasir Jamshed averages 44 in first class cricket and please compare him with some of the other test openers and you will see for yourself. Hafeez getting picked in Tests due to good outing in ODIs is another laughable decision.

Sarfraz Ahmad and Adnan AkmalIt was a complete shock to see Mohammad Salman getting the nod over Adnan and Sarfraz in tests. Adnan did a decent enough job in New Zealand and even if he failed to meet PCB's expectations then Sarfraz Ahmad should have been the obvious replacement but NO they picked Salman after his mediocre show in the ODI series. Strange very strange.

Rana Naved, Abdul Razzaq and Tanvir Ahmad
Do i need to tell you people about their utility especially in t20 format. They are auto picks but for reasons known only to PCB they are not considered. Razzaq dropped from all forms after being strategically crucified in the World Cup and Rana's fault seem to be that his stats are good. PC only plays bowlers like Tanvir Ahmad who have economy rate of over 8 and was plundered by Razzaq in Faisal Bank T20 last time around. Poor Tanvir Ahmad got picked for t20 (when he did not deserve to) and failed to make the XI in tests (where he deserves)

Yousuf Vs Younus
Who is better in ODIs?
Younus Khan, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad YousufYounus Khan is a class player everyone knows that but he has never been a prolific limited order batter for Pakistan although he had a few purple patches in the ODI format but even then Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Malik are better picks than Younus Khan for ODIs. Shoaib Malik was in excellent form (100 vs IND in Champ trophy) when he got dropped and then banned. Even after the lifting of the ban he made a terrific come back in First Class cricket but still he was neglected. Same is Mohammad Yousuf's story who proved his form and fitness before the world cup but he was over looked.

Khurram ManzoorKhurram again not the most elegant players but performed well and managed to win a place in the Pak top order and had a fairly good tour down under and was batting freely in the Pak-SL match on 2 March 2009. The match ended abruptly and so did his test career and he was not only dropped from the XI but from the squad as well.

Anwar Ali, Mansoor Amjad, Hammad Azam etc
These two gems among many others have been consistently neglected despite consistently good outings in the domestic circuit. Mansoor Amjad had a terrific season with Sialkot scoring highly in Q.A Trophy and together with that he is a more than handy leg spin bowler but he along with the Sultan of Swing (as he displayed in Malaysia) has been over looked foe no valid reason. Hammad Azam was not picked when he should have been and was picked when he should NOT have been.

The list can go on and on. The bottom line is that PCB constantly mixes up the selections across different formats and picks a particular player in a particular format at the back of his performance in any other format. Its about time that they learn from their mistakes and realize that there is a certain term called " Horses for Courses".
