$500 Million(42 Billion Pak Rs) were gambled in Indo-Pak Semi Final at Mohali
The money being gambled in Cricket is now galactic: its rising, rising and rising. According to ex-ICC Chief Executive Officer, Malcolm Speed, nearly 500 Million Dollars gambled away during Indo-Pak’s historical Semi Final of WC’2011. The amount is indeed shocking, its hard to believe that sum being gambled on a single game. 500 Million Dollars which is equal to 42 Billion Pakistan Rupees.
Malcolm Speed further claimed that nearly 200 Million Dollars are gambled on every India’s match. If he is to be believed on this amount then shocking amount of 500 Million Dollars looks possible as it was a World Cup Semi Final that too between Pakistan and India. Malcolm Speed has further unveiled many realities in his recently published book “Sticky Wicket”, he also mentioned in his book that how India became the powerhouse of Cricketing World.
Malcolm Speed adds: “The other vital ingredient is for there to be specific criminal penalties for those involved in gambling-related corruption whether those allegations relate to outright match-fixing or spot-fixing or trading with the benefit of price-sensitive information.”
Another news related to match-fixing syndicates is Lord Paul Condon, the former chief of the ICC’s anti-corruption unit, told ICC – in 2009 – about the absence of investigators from India Permier League. Paul Condon also mentioned concerns, to ICC, about the notorious atmosphere during matches of IPL; where celebrities and people of power have easy access to players. ICC investigators are now part of the IPL and the Twenty20 Champions League, where Cricket Australia has a financial stake.
