Jersey Jinx in the World Cup

The Official Jersey or the Kit of all the countries taking part in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 were unveiled. For Pakistani fans it was a change from the light green Jerseys that they have been wearing to a more CLOSE to the flag type of appearance. It is of dark Green Colour with a Moon and Star in the centre.

This change may seem a refreshing one for the spectators but the relevant history is not big a supporter of the Light Green to Dark Green shift. Every Pakistani Cricket fan does not need the visuals to recall their magical performance in the 1992 World Cup and all of us are familiar with the kit too, it was a light green version.

In 1996 Pakistani Team wore the slightly darker stripes and failed to go beyond the quarter finals to their nemesis, India.

In 1999-00 Pakistan again reverted back to the Light Green Kit with a Dark Green Star and we all know that how well the team performed.

In 2003 Pakistan went with the even more darker shade of Green with a bit of Yellow on the shoulders and Pakistan, written at the front was also of yellow colour. It seemed that the darkness of green colour was inversely proportional to the performance of the team as Pakistan, for the first time, failed to make it to the next round.

2007 was more or less the same story as the Pakistan team wearing dark greens got knocked out after losing to First Timers, Ireland and the Woolmer's death and subsequent allegations proved that the kit towards left was not a lucky one for Pakistan.

Even out of world cup if we see the recent history then the light green seems the better option. Last time Pakistan wore Dark Green they were thrashed 5-0 by Aussies and their performances in the Light Green Jersey were a lot better, best being the first ODI series win against the kiwis, couple of weeks back.

Its about time that to eliminate this Jinx for good so that we can shout GO GREEN with all the zeal and passion without having to worry about the shade of that green.
