Ashley Young all set for £20m move to Old Trafford

Aston Villa winger Ashley Young will complete a £20million move to Manchester United within the next 48 hours, if reports from England are to be believed.

Villa have reluctantly allowed the much sought after winger to move on in his quest to play regularly on the biggest stage, the Champions League.

The deal for the 25-year-old England International, who has only one more year of his Villa Park contract to run, is set to be finalised in the next 48 hours.

Young, whose value has more than doubled since he moved to the Midlands from Watford in January 2007, has agreed a four-year contract at Old Trafford.

He scored 39 goals in 193 games for Villa and has netted twice in 15 appearances for the senior England side, the latest coming on Saturday when he was a half-time substitute in the Euro 2012 qualifier and netted the second equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Switzerland at Wembley.

Young has been coveted by Liverpool and Manchester City but has set his heart on joining the ranks at Old Trafford, where Ferguson sees him as successor on the wing to Ryan Giggs. His arrival could lead to the departure of Nani, who is wanted by Serie A side Juventus.

Ferguson likes Young's pace and versatility - he is able to play on either flank or as a second striker.

Liverpool and Arsenal going head-to-head for Phil Jones and Scott Dann

Arsenal and Liverpool are going head-to-head for defensive duo Phil Jones and Scott Dann according to SkySports.com.

Blackburn Rovers highly rated center-back Phile Jones and Birmingham City's centre-back Dann are both thought to be top targets for the Gunners and Reds as they look to bolster their defensive options this summer.

Dann has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the league during the last two seasons. The 6ft 5in Dann, who been likened to Alan Hansen and Tony Adams, is believed to be keen to stay in the Premier League and the lifelong Liverpool fan would jump at the chance of a move to Anfield.

Liverpool and Arsenal are also currently at the front of the queue for the signing of Phil Jones with the player's camp said to favour a move to Anfield. The North London club have held a long-term interest in the England Under-21 international and had a bid rejected for Jones last summer.
Blackburn value Jones at about £15million but are determined not sell him for less than the club record £18m banked from Roque Santa Cruz's move to City two years ago.

Liverpool In tug-of-war over Phil Jones with Arsenal and Manchester United

Liverpool will have to face stiff competition from Arsenal and Manchester United and pay close to £18m to land Blackburn Rovers Phil Jones

The highly-rated England Under-21 defender and his agent had a meeting with manager Steve Kean at Blackburn's Brockhall training ground on Monday morning when Jones is believed to have indicated that he feels the time is right to make the step up to a bigger club.

Jones, who signed a new five-year contract in January, is unlikely to submit a formal transfer request and Blackburn’s wealthy Indian owners, Venkys, could yet veto any attempts by Jones to leave the club.

Liverpool and Arsenal are currently at the front of the queue with the player's camp said to favour a move to Anfield.

However sources at Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that Sir Alex Ferguson expressed an interest in January, and both Manchester United and neighbours City could enter the equation once the bidding begins. Ferguson wants to sign Jones as a long term partner for Chris Smalling.

Blackburn value Jones at about £15million but are determined not sell him for less than the club record £18m banked from Roque Santa Cruz's move to City two years ago.
