City are currently third in the table a point adrift of second placed Napoli who are on eight points, only a City win and a draw/loss for Napoli will see City progress but chances of that are somewhat slim considering that Napoli will be traveling to the point less Villareal who are expected to pose little resistance.
City will be without full backs Micah Richards and Aleksander Kolarov, Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy are expected to start instead.
Bayern, who are already through as group winners, have travelled to Manchester without former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben and midfielder Toni Kroos, who are both suffering from flu.
Forwards Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez have also been ill but coach Jupp Heynckes is hopeful both will be fit to play.
