Pakistan successfully opened their tour of the Caribbean yesterday beating University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor's XI at Mindoo Phillip Park by 68 runs.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first, the host were generous enough to drop stand in captain Muhammad Hafeez in the very first over and were made to pay as Hafeez slammed a 93 ball 101 hitting ten fours and two sixes. Hafeez was well supported by opening partner Taufeeq Umar [44] and Ahmed Shehzad [49].
Umar Akmal took the host to the cleaners slamming a quick fired [57] that included eight fours and a six. Umar's blitz propelled Pakistan to a sizeable 287-7 in the allotted 50 overs.
West Indies made a comfortable start to the chase as Miles Bascombe and Omar Phillips put on 40 for the first wicket. But the fast bowling trio of Tanvir Ahmed , Junaid Khan and Wahab Riaz each chipped in a wicket to reduce the hosts to 75 for 3.
Dwayne Bravo [63] and Nkruma Bonner [43] reconstructed the innings adding 48 runs for the fourth wicket but Abdur Rehman had other plans, Rehman's spell of 10 overs 27 runs and 4 wickets restricted the hosts to 219-8 in 50 overs, 68 short of Pakistan 287.
Pakistan will take on West Indies on 21Ist April in the only T20 match in Gros Islet, St Lucia at 11.00pm PST. For complete schedule visit
