Men are 'drama queens' when it comes to football, says Study
It's official - men are the worst play actors when it comes to the football field. Sports scientists claim that it actually takes men 30 seconds longer than women to get up after they've been fouled because they're looking for attention.
Players such as Cristiano Ronaldo - known for theatrics when he drops to the ground in a flash after a 'love tap' - do it because they thrive on the buzz they get from a big match, the study found.
Professor Martin Lames, who undertook the study comparing male and female footballers in Munich, explained his findings as being down to publicity.
'Men's football generally pulls in more spectators and receives greater media coverage,' he said.
'For men, the thought of taking centre-stage is much more pronounced than for women, where the game itself is paramount.'
Professor Lames' colleague Matle Siegle then went on to confirm that diving and play-acting was typical behaviour of male footballing drama queens.
'Men also use interruptions tactically. When they are in the lead, players take their time with injuries, Mr Siegle said.
'They do it much more so than if the score is even, or when the other side is leading. This behaviour is not observed in women's football.'
