5 things you need to know about Connor Wickham

Connor Wickham has been strongly linked with a £10million move to Liverpool. Here are five things you should know about the young striker.

1. Wickham was born in Hereford on 11 March, 1993 [ Current Age: 18-years]. He is a boyhood Liverpool fan and used yo idolize former Liverpool hitman Fernando Torres.

2. Wickham made his debut for Ipswich in April 2009, aged 16 years and 11 days against Doncaster, where he came on as a substitute. That made him the club's youngest-ever player. 


3. Former Ipswich and England defender Kevin Beattie has already called Wickham, "an incredible talent," adding: "The boy has everything, strength, skill, the lot. It would not surprise me if he were partnering Wayne Rooney up front for England in a few years time. He impresses me that much."

4. On 4 March 2011, Wickham was named Championship player of the month for February after scoring four goals in the month, including his first professional hat-trick at Doncaster. Two weeks later he was named the Football League Young Player of the Year as well as the Championship Apprentice of the Year at the 2011 Football League Awards.

5. Wickham has represented England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and - last November, when he was still only 17 - Under-21 level. He scored 09 goals in the 2010-2011 season for Ipswich often playing in a wide role instead of his favored center forward position.
