Sindh MPA's all praise for Shahid Afridi

Sindh MPAs on Friday lauded former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi and criticised the PCB for having suspended the star cricketer’s NOC.

Sports minister Dr Mohammed Ali Shah told the assembly that it was Afridi who took the team to the semi-final of the Cricket World Cup 2011 but, regrettably, he was first removed from captaincy and then from the national side.

The sports minister further said that Afridi was an international star and was loved in the cricket world for hitting more sixes and scoring the fastest international century in the history of the game. He urged President Zardari to remove Ijaz Butt as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Meanwhile, when Shah said it was an injustice with players of Sindh as at the moment there was only one player, Asad Shafiq, who belongs to the province, Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro observed that it would be advisable if there was one Sindhi speaking player in the national cricket team.

Local government minister Agha Siraj Durrani demanded that the PCB chairman should be selected from Sindh, and law minister Ayaz Soomro said there was no shortage of talented players in the province but they have been ignored.
